Odoo 20 was unveiled this week at Odoo Experience 2026 in Brussels (September 24–26), and it's shaping up to be one of the most significant releases yet — not because of one flashy headline feature, but because of how deeply AI, automation, and hardware integration now run through nearly every app. Here's a breakdown of what's actually changing, module by module.

1. Artificial Intelligence & Automation (mostly Enterprise)

AI is no longer a chatbot bolted onto the side of Odoo — it's now native inside Accounting, Helpdesk, Website, and record creation itself. The standout additions:

  • Agentic AI actions — bulk lead reassignment, project creation straight from a PDF, and live cross-module queries
  • Voice interaction — run day-to-day ERP operations with natural voice commands
  • AI-driven treasury and finance review — an agent that runs quarterly reconciliation, flags anomalies, and reports findings
  • Timesheet assistant — a local desktop app that watches activity across Odoo tabs and suggests timesheet entries automatically
  • Automated suggestions and generation — smarter logic for emails, marketing content, and categorization

2. System, UX & Hardware Integration

  • A redesigned mobile interface built specifically for field-worker use
  • Obox, a new centralized hardware management architecture replacing the old IoT Box setup (Enterprise)
  • A Light user role — a cheaper, limited-access tier between Portal and full Internal users
  • Smarter date filters with native previous/current/next navigation in list and tree views
  • A Contacts hierarchy view, mirroring the existing Employees org-chart view
  • Browser-based hardware detection, cutting down on IoT Box certificate requirements

  • Cloud storage offloading to Google Cloud Storage or Azure to reduce database bloat

New Modules Worth Knowing About

Diffing the Odoo 19 and 20 source trees turned up several major new modules, most notably obox (hardware management), ai_agentic (30+ modules powering agentic AI), planning_field_service, and connectors like sale_tiktok and mail_tracking.

Should You Upgrade?

Given how much of this — Payroll, Field Service, Accounting reports, biometric attendance — is Enterprise-only, the upgrade decision depends heavily on which license you're on and which modules you actually use. For Community users, the UX, POS, and Website improvements alone may justify planning an upgrade path.
